WHO WE ARE

Living Heritage in Action

Rooted in Compassion, Growing Through Community

SVGA Reading is a welcoming community organisation dedicated to celebrating the heritage of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, strengthening our community and inspiring future generations.

Founded in response to the 1979 eruption of La Soufrière, our Association has grown from an act of compassion into a thriving community where heritage, friendship and service come together.

Our Story Began with Compassion

In 1979, the eruption of La Soufrière changed lives across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Families were displaced, communities faced uncertainty, and Vincentians living abroad looked for ways to help.

Here in Reading, local Vincentians came together to collect supplies, raise funds and support those affected. What began as a compassionate response to a national crisis has become something lasting—a community built on friendship, generosity and shared purpose.

From those early acts of kindness, the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Association & Friends (Reading) was born.

Today, that same spirit continues to guide everything we do. We celebrate our culture, strengthen our community, support those in need and create opportunities for future generations to connect with their heritage and with one another.

That is our story.

That is who we are.

That is Living Heritage!
