What We Do
Our Heritage in Action
Every activity we organise brings people together, celebrates Vincentian heritage and creates opportunities for our community to thrive.
Through cultural celebrations, wellbeing programmes, education and community partnerships, we create spaces where people connect, belong and make a positive difference.
Community Events
Our community events bring people together to celebrate, connect and create lasting memories.
Throughout the year we organise family fun days, coach trips, cultural celebrations, social gatherings and community activities that welcome people of all ages and backgrounds.
Every event strengthens friendships and reinforces the sense of belonging that has been at the heart of SVGA Reading since 1983.
Our Heritage
We believe our heritage is something to be lived, shared and celebrated—not simply remembered.
Through storytelling, music, food, traditions and the Vincentian Heritage Circle, we preserve the rich history and culture of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines while inspiring future generations to value their identity and roots.
By celebrating our past, we strengthen our community today and help ensure our heritage continues to thrive tomorrow.
Health & Wellbeing
We believe that strong communities are built on healthy, active and connected people.
Through social activities, community events and future wellbeing initiatives, we encourage people of all ages to stay active, build friendships and support one another in living healthier, happier lives.
As our organisation continues to grow, we are committed to developing new opportunities that promote physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection for our community.
Community Support
We believe that strong communities are built through kindness, collaboration and practical support.
Working alongside trusted partners, charities and public organisations, we help connect people with information, guidance and opportunities that make a positive difference. Through community engagement, volunteering and collaborative projects, we aim to ensure that everyone feels welcomed, included and supported.
One example of this is our Commonwealth Compensation Advocacy Programme. Following specialist training from an immigration law firm and the Home Office Community Engagement Team, our trained volunteers support people seeking information about the Windrush Compensation Scheme. We have hosted community information events with the Home Office, provided one-to-one signposting at community events, and have been invited to share our work with organisations beyond Reading as part of our commitment to raising awareness and supporting those who may be eligible for compensation.
Future Generations
We believe our greatest legacy is the opportunities we create for future generations.
We are committed to encouraging young people and families to take pride in their Vincentian heritage while developing the confidence, skills and experiences that will help them thrive.
By creating opportunities to volunteer, learn, contribute and take on leadership roles, we aim to inspire the next generation to become active members of both our local community and the wider society.
As we continue to grow, we will develop new programmes and partnerships that bring generations together, celebrate culture and create pathways for young people to learn, lead and make a positive difference.
By investing in today's young people, we are helping to build a stronger, more connected community for tomorrow.
