Virgin Atlantic airline to make inaugural flight to SVG in October 2021

INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE Virgin Atlantic will land at Argyle International Airport (AIA) in St Vincent for the first time on 13 October 2021.

This inaugural flight will mark the beginning of a twice-weekly service on Wednesdays and Sundays from London Heathrow Airport to St

Vincent and the Grenadines. It will be the first scheduled airline to fly from Europe to SVG.

Since the announcement that Sandals had bought the Buccament Bay resort to convert it into ‘Beaches by Sandals’, Virgin has been eager to get into the market because of the tremendous potential financial rewards it offers.

Visitors to SVG can already fly non-stop from several North American cities including Toronto, New York and Miami on Air Canada Rouge, Caribbean Air Lines and American Airlines respectively.  The Virgin Atlantic flights will arrive in SVG late afternoon, allowing those passengers travelling from Europe to soak up some sun or even visit the beach before nightfall.

Carlos James, the tourism minister, said that by the end of this year, Vincentians will be able to “boast about the fact that we will now have direct access to all our major source markets for tourism”.
